Every once in a while a truck manufacturer will change their pickup trucks body style mid-way through the production year. When the body style of a truck changes, typically there are also some changes made to the box of the truck in terms of shape and where the stake pockets or factory holes maybe located. This is important to note when ordering a Fold-a-Cover product as we design our tonneau covers and Personal Caddys specifically for each application.
The most well known of these mid-year body style changes is with the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra.
The 1997-2007 body style for both the Silverado and Sierra are reffered to as the ‘Silverado/Sierra Classic’. You may also see them referred to as the NBS (New Body Style) or gmt800 Silverado/Sierra. Mid-way through 2007 General Motors updated their trucks to the current body style which has stayed the same from 2007-2013. This body style simply goes by ‘Silverado/Sierra’, you may also see them referred to as NNBS (New New Body Style) or gmt900 ‘Silverado/Sierra’.
The next body style change is less commonly known as there is no official name for the body change. However, over the years we have run into some customers who have had a 2002 Ram 1500 with an old body style and some customers who have had a 2002 Ram 1500 with a new body style. We put the graphic below together to help differentiate between the new/old body style the best we could.
